Help save the grant for The Center for Autism and Related Disorders

I just learned that the funding for Weston's Autism program is in jeopardy, there is danger of it getting allocated to other areas due to budget shortfalls. You may have been reading about this in paper. The money for Weston and other children in this grant was protected until last night. I thought I would reach out to friends in the blogging world as ask if they will call the Governor. When you call they may tell that the Governor has no intention of using the money from Wes's program, but we must contact the Governor and let her know that it is important to us. At the end of the grant, (3 years from now) these children will help pave the way for other children to have them most amazing services, this will allow them the opportunity to contribute to society and lead a richer life. If it sounds like I am begging, I am. I don't have a lot of pride and am not afraid to ask for help when I need it. Please tell people you know. Below is how you can help. Also, if you ever have questions about Autism Spectrum disorders, feel free to ask me. If you want me to talk to someone you know, I do it all the time. Just ask. Thank you!!

This in an example of what you could e-mail the Governor
"I am writing the Governor to strongly urge her not to cut or reduce the 1.8 million dollars that has been allocated to the CARD treatment pilot study to treat Autism. I appreciate all the work Governor Napolitano does for the Arizona children with Autism and hope she will not cut this very needed CARD study."

This is the response I got from the governor's office...

Thank you sharing your concerns about the Children's Autism Intensive Behavioral Treatment Services. The Governor remains committed to research and treatment related to autism.

On Friday, April 18th, Governor Napolitano signed HB 2620, the budget bill for FY 08. Rest assured, no child or family will lose services available through the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) in this budget. This budget makes use of funding that was unexpended from a prior year. Again, this is not a $1.8 million cut to children's autism
services in 2008.
